USFA Tournament Rules

This page is a brief summary of the requirements for tournament organisers to host a sanctioned USFA tournament. Please note that this is not an authoritative document and is made as a courtesy to the division. Official USFA documentation and regulations are the only documents that should be relied upon.

All USFA sanctioned tournaments must adhere to:

  • All competing fencers are competitive members of the USFA with a valid, up-to-date membership as of the date of the tournament
  • Age, gender, and rating restrictions must be applied as appropriate for fencers
  • For divisional, regional and national competitions, only US citizens and permanent residents may fence
  • All referees must be professional, competitive members of the USFA with a valid, up-to-date membership as of the date of the tournament (minors who are refereeing are exempt)
  • All referees must have passed their background check prior to the start of the tournament (minors who are refereeing are exempt)
  • All referees must have completed their Safe Sport training prior to the start of the tournament (minors who are refereeing are exempt)
